26.09.2013

With the help of the initiative of President of Palilula Boban Džunić, mayor of Nis, Prof. Dr. Zoran Perisic and parents protesters, who organized protests by the Council of parents of primary school "Branko Miljkovic" in Nis, the impasse over the beginning of the reconstruction of nine classroom in this educational institution will be solved soon. About a thousand students who attend this educational institution, will get better working conditions within the next school year.

Ana Miric Čelebić, Head of Investment in infrastructure projects, from the Ministry of Regional Development and Local Government, is following discussions with the leaders of the town and municipality of Paliliula and has insight into the current state of the object, has announced the accelerated activity of the relevant services in order to complete project documentation, its verification from the European Investment Bank and tendering that the construction could begin. During the operating agreements for further investment activities, Nenad Gašević, City Council member and Branislav Jovanovic, executive director of the City Land Development Agency, were also participating.
According to initial calculations, for the expansion of the school, there had to be 110 million dinars of investment. Ministry of Regional Development and Local Government allocated 25 million for this purpose, while the city budget will allocate an additional 30 million.

The entire project, in the words of Miroslav Stanic, director of school "Branko Miljkovic" in Nis, was suppose to be realized with the available funds, but a doubled value of the work in the tendering process made a new project costs, which slowed the  investment. The problem got weirder year ago, after the school year 2012/2013, when the building inspectors ordered the primary school "Branko Miljkovic" to shut down and put out of use nine classrooms that are prone to falling, and staying in them is posing as a potential danger to students. Building inspection survey found that those classrooms, because of age, can be broken down at any moment and it would not be desirable to teach in them. They also instructed that the existing classrooms to be renovated or upgraded because the old can no longer be used. It is about nine classrooms that are prefabricated, built in the old part of the school in 1965. Due to changes in the plans for the construction of new classrooms, the old project has undergone changes. Project stopped at the tendering and selection of contractors.
